How to use the online mirror

  1. Press Turn on camera. This webcam mirror asks for the camera only now, never on page load.
  2. Choose Allow when your browser asks.
  3. Pick Mirror view or True view.
  4. Set Zoom and the Light ring, and turn your screen brightness up for more light.
  5. Press Space or Freeze to hold the picture; Save photo only if you want one.
  6. Press Turn off camera when you’re done. Switching tabs turns it off too.

Mirror view vs true view

Looking for a true mirror online? Here it is. A mirror swaps left and right, and most cameras and call apps show your own preview the same way, so moving your hand feels natural. Everyone else sees the un-mirrored picture. That’s why a T-shirt slogan reads backwards in your preview but correctly to the people on the call, and why your parting can look “wrong” in photos. Mirror view (the default) shows the mirror image; True view shows you as others see you. Most video-call apps have a similar mirror setting for their self-view, usually in the video settings.

Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet are trademarks of their owners; HugeTimer isn’t affiliated with them.

Zoom, brightness and the light ring

Zoom goes up to 3×. Digital zoom crops the picture, so it gets softer the further you go. Brightness changes only how the picture looks on your screen, not the camera itself. The Light ring is screen light: a wider ring and a cooler color give more light on your face, especially with your screen brightness up. For even more light, put the screen light on a second screen.

Use it as a digital makeup mirror

Try 2× zoom with a 20–30 % ring. Use Warm or Soft white at night and Daylight by day, so colors look the way they will in that light. For a rosy glow instead, a soft pink light on a second device works well.

Freeze the view and save a photo

Press Space or Freeze to hold the current picture while the camera stays on. Save photo downloads a JPEG of exactly what you see, without the ring. The site keeps nothing; the photo exists only in your downloads.

Your privacy: what happens to the video

The camera turns on only after you click. Frames are shown inside this page and never leave it: there is no recording code, and an automated test checks that on every build. Switching tabs, locking your phone or closing the page stops every camera track, and your browser’s camera indicator goes off. Only view settings (view, zoom, brightness and ring) are saved, in this browser. If you allow analytics, they never include images, camera names or times.

Fixing camera permission problems

Chrome and Edge

Click the icon at the left of the address bar, open the site settings, set Camera to Allow and press Try again.

Firefox

Click the camera or permissions icon in the address bar, remove the blocked camera permission and press Try again.

Safari on Mac

Open Safari → Settings → Websites → Camera and set this site to Allow.

iPhone and iPad

Tap the page-settings button in Safari’s address bar, open Website Settings and set Camera to Allow.

Windows and macOS privacy settings

On Windows, open Settings → Privacy & security → Camera and let desktop apps use it. On a Mac, open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera and switch on your browser.

“Your camera is busy”

Another app, such as a video call, holds the camera. Close it or end its call, then press Try again.

Options explained

Mirror view is the default; True view un-flips it. Zoom runs from 1× to 3× and Brightness from 60 to 180 %, starting at 100 %. Light ring is 12 % wide by default, in Daylight 5000 K. Camera appears when you have more than one. Keep screen on in Settings is on by default.

How it works

Your browser’s camera API streams the picture into the page. Mirror view flips it horizontally, zoom enlarges a part of it, and the ring color comes from the same color-temperature formula as the screen light. In short, a mirror online, drawn from your camera and never sent anywhere.

Tips and limits

  • Front cameras are wide-angle, so faces close to the lens look distorted.
  • Low light makes the picture grainy; widen the ring or add a lamp.
  • Digital zoom is not a magnifying mirror.
  • Colored room light shifts skin tones.
  • Getting ready before a call? A 5 minute timer or a fullscreen clock keeps you on time.

FAQ

Is there an online mirror I can use without an app?

Yes, this page. It works in any current browser on a computer, phone or tablet with a camera, and nothing is installed. Press Turn on camera, choose Allow when the browser asks, and your camera shows you like a mirror. Switching tabs or pressing Turn off camera turns it off again.

Why does my camera image look flipped?

Because mirrors flip left and right, and camera previews copy that so moving feels natural. Others on a call see you the other way round, which is why text on a T-shirt looks backwards to you. Press V or choose True view to see yourself as other people do.

Is the online mirror private?

Yes. The camera starts only after you click, the picture is shown in this page and never recorded or uploaded, and every camera track stops when you switch tabs, lock the phone or close the page. Only view settings such as zoom and ring width are saved, in this browser.

Is the online mirror free?

Yes, completely, with no sign-up, no download and no watermark. The page is paid for by ads, which sit below the tool and never over the camera view or in fullscreen. Your camera picture never goes to an ad network, our server or anyone else; it stays inside this page.

How do I allow camera access?

Click Turn on camera and choose Allow in the browser's prompt. If you blocked it before, open the site settings from the icon at the left of the address bar, set Camera to Allow and press Try again. The section on camera permission problems above has steps for each browser.

Can I zoom in on the digital mirror?

Yes, up to 3× with the Zoom slider, the + and − keys or a pinch. Where the camera offers zoom of its own, the mirror uses it first, which keeps more detail; otherwise it enlarges the picture digitally, which looks softer. Drag the view or use the arrow pad to look around.

Does it work on phones and tablets?

Yes. It uses the front camera and keeps the screen on while the camera runs. On iPhone, Safari can't make a page truly fullscreen, so the mirror fills the window instead; add the page to your Home Screen for a bigger view. Turn the brightness up and the light ring lights your face.

Can I save a photo from the mirror?

Yes, but only when you ask. Press Space or Freeze, then Save photo: a JPEG of what you see, without the light ring, goes to your downloads. It's made on your device and never uploaded. Unfreezing, turning off the camera or switching tabs throws the frozen frame away.
