How to use the bomb timer
- Tap a length under the bomb, such as 30 s or 1 min, or click the digits and type one:
45is 0:45 and2mis 2:00. - Press Start or the spacebar. This online bomb timer runs in your browser, with nothing to install.
- Press Fullscreen or F so everyone in the room can see the fuse.
- Defuse pauses the countdown and Resume carries on. Reset refills the fuse.
- After the BOOM, press Restart or the spacebar to run the same length again.
Game ideas: passing games, quiz rounds and stream challenges
- Hot-potato-style passing games. Start a 1:00 fuse on one phone and pass it around the circle while everyone names a word in the category. Whoever holds the phone at the BOOM sits out the next round. In fullscreen a tap only shows the buttons, so a nervous grab can’t pause the bomb.
- Quiz answers. Give each team 30 seconds to 1 minute. Put the bomb on a TV or projector and press the spacebar after every BOOM for the next question.
- Word-guessing rounds. A 1 or 2 minute fuse keeps describing and guessing games moving at a party table.
- Team puzzles. A 5 to 20 minute countdown on the meeting-room TV turns a work puzzle into a race against the fuse.
- Stream challenges. Show the bomb over your game or camera while you try to finish a level before it goes off.
Want an end that nobody can predict? The random timer hides its length until the buzzer.
Ticks, 3-2-1 beeps and a cartoon boom
In the last ten seconds you hear seven ticks, then three short beeps at 3, 2 and 1, then one cartoon pop at zero. Switch off Ticks in the last 10 s for a quieter round, or turn off the 3-2-1 beeps, and the ticks carry on to the last second. Set the Volume in Settings, or press M to mute. Nothing plays until you click or tap the page once, as browsers require, and every sound is generated in your browser rather than downloaded.
Pick a length: 10 seconds to 60 minutes
The chips cover the usual game lengths: 10 s, 30 s, 1 min, 2 min, 5 min and 10 min. Type anything else from 0:05 up to 60:00, such as 15m for a quarter of an hour. For longer countdowns, use the online countdown timer.
A bomb countdown overlay for OBS
Open Share and choose Copy OBS link. In OBS Studio or similar streaming software, add a browser source and paste the link. The bomb and its digits appear on a transparent background, without buttons, page text or the flash. Add &autostart=1 to the link to light the fuse as soon as the source loads, and &sound=1 to let the source play the ticks and the pop. The link remembers your length and whether ticking is on.
Options explained
- Ticks in the last 10 s: on. Seven ticks from 10 seconds left.
- 3-2-1 beeps: on. Three beeps before zero.
- End sound: Pop. Choose another sound or Off, and press Test sound to hear it.
- Show tenths below 10 s: on, so the last seconds read
9.9,9.8and so on. - Flash at zero: on. One short white flash.
- Count overtime: off. When on, the digits count the time since the BOOM.
- Keep screen on, Show time in tab title, Show progress in tab icon and Notify me when time is up work as on every HugeTimer page. Clear my data forgets your length and settings.
How it works
When you press Start, the page saves the exact moment the fuse should run out. Every update shows that moment minus your device clock, so the countdown can’t drift while the computer is busy. The visible fuse is the share of time left: at 0:30 of a 1:00 round, half the fuse is gone. The ticks, beeps and pop are booked in advance on the audio clock, because browsers slow down hidden tabs; Chrome checks their timers about once a second, and after five hidden minutes only once a minute (Chrome’s timer throttling). A sleeping laptop runs nothing at all, so a missed end shows “Time’s up — 3:12 ago” instead of a late pop. More detail: how our timers stay accurate.
Tips and limits
- Keep the page open. Phones may pause pages in the background or when the screen locks.
- On iPhone, the timer fills the browser window instead of going fully fullscreen; add the page to your Home Screen for more room.
- Plug in a laptop for long rounds, and turn Keep screen on on.
- The flash happens once at most, and you can switch it off.
- It’s a cartoon game prop, nothing more.
Why not a bomb timer video or GIF?
A video has a fixed length, so you can’t add ten seconds, pause for a question or run it again at once, and most come with music. A GIF loops at its own speed and ignores real seconds. This timer counts the time you set and stops when you say.
OBS Studio is a trademark of its owners; HugeTimer is not affiliated with it.
FAQ
What is a timer bomb on this page?
It's a cartoon countdown for games, nothing more. A round black bomb sits above red digits, and its fuse is exactly as long as the share of time left, so at half time half the fuse is gone. When the fuse runs out you see a comic BOOM, hear a short pop and the round is over.
How do I set a 1, 2 or 5 minute bomb timer?
Tap 1 min, 2 min or 5 min under the bomb, then press Start. For any other length, click the digits and type it: 45 is 0:45, 5m is 5:00 and 1530 is 15:30. The bomb timer runs from 0:05 up to 60:00, and it opens with the last length you started.
Can I turn the ticking off?
Yes. Open Settings and switch off Ticks in the last 10 s. The 3-2-1 beeps have their own switch, and End sound can be set to Off, so you can keep any mix of the three. Press M or the Sound button to mute everything at once without changing your settings.
Is the bomb timer OK for people sensitive to flashing light?
It flashes at most once per run: a single white flash of 150 milliseconds when the fuse runs out, never red and never repeated. Switch it off with Flash at zero in Settings. If your device asks for reduced motion, the flash, the spark and the BOOM animation are off automatically.
Can I use the bomb timer on a stream?
Yes. Choose Share, then Copy OBS link, and add the link as a browser source in your streaming software. The bomb and the digits appear on a transparent background with no buttons and no flash. Add &autostart=1 to start the fuse when the source loads and &sound=1 for the ticks.
Does the bomb timer play music?
No. You hear seven ticks, three beeps and one pop in the last ten seconds, and each of them can be switched off. There is no soundtrack to sit through, unlike most bomb timer videos, and nothing plays at all until you have clicked or tapped the page once.
Will it keep ticking if I switch tabs or pass my phone around?
On a computer, yes: the ticks and the pop are booked on the audio clock when you press Start, so they play on time in a background tab. Passing a phone is safe too, because a tap only shows the buttons. Keep the page open and the screen on, since phones may pause pages in the background.
