How to count down to a date

Use it as a days-until calculator or as a live countdown.

    1. Tap a holiday such as Christmas, or type an Event name.
    2. Pick the Date. Add a Time if it doesn’t start at midnight: 7:30 pm and 1930 both work.
    3. Leave Time zone on My local time, or choose Fixed zone for one moment everywhere.
    4. Press Share, Fullscreen, Embed or Save.

Days until Halloween, Christmas, Thanksgiving and other holidays

The holiday chips count down to 00:00 on the day in your time zone, then show “It’s Halloween!” or “It’s Christmas!” all day. New Year always counts to the next 1 January. Easter (Western) is the first Sunday after the ecclesiastical full moon on or after 21 March (Date of Easter). Thanksgiving (US) is the fourth Thursday of November (U.S. Office of Personnel Management); the countdown aims at the holiday itself, not at a day off that an employer moves. Weekend counts to Saturday 00:00 and says “It’s the weekend!” until Monday.

Each preset moves on to next year by itself once its day is over, so a saved or shared holiday countdown keeps working.

Your own event: date, time and time zone

Count down to a trip, a wedding, an exam or a retirement. For 19 November at 7:30 pm, pick the date and type 7:30 pm or 1930. Birthday… opens Birthday or yearly date: choose a day and month, and the countdown moves on to the next one every year, which suits anniversaries too. A 29 February birthday counts to 28 February in common years.

For “starting soon” screens before a stream or meeting, In 15 min, In 30 min, In 1 hour, Today 18:00 and Today 20:00 (6 PM and 8 PM) set today’s date and a time in one tap.

    How days until are counted

    Timeline from Saturday noon to Monday noon across a daylight-saving change: 2 calendar days but 49 hours on the clock Sat noonmidnight 1midnight 2Mon noon 12 hSunday: 25 h (clocks go back)12 h Headline: 2 days · Clock: 2 d 01 h

The headline counts calendar days: the midnights between now and the day, in the event’s time zone, so today isn’t counted. The boxes show the exact time left, so at noon the clock is half a day shorter than the headline. A clock change adds or removes an hour: in the diagram, US clocks go back on the Sunday, so it has 25 hours.

Leap years come from the calendar, so 29 February counts whenever it exists. Counting today or the event day as well adds one, and another time zone can shift the count by one, because its midnight comes at a different moment.

Press Share, then Copy link (Share link on a phone). The event rides in the link after the # sign, which browsers never send to our server, so there’s no account. Anyone with the link can read the event name. With My local time, everyone counts to the same clock time in their own zone, like midnight on New Year’s Eve; with a fixed zone, everyone counts to the same moment.

Full screen, OBS and embed on a website

Press Fullscreen or F to fill a TV or projector. The controls fade, and the screen stays on where your browser supports it; on an iPhone, Safari can’t go truly fullscreen, so the countdown fills the window. For streams, Share → Copy OBS link gives a transparent overlay. Embed makes a countdown widget for any website: Small 320×160, Medium 480×200 or Large 640×260, in Night, Day or Transparent. The snippet has a title and one small credit link, and no ads.

    Counting days since a date

Pick a past date, such as a move or a new job, and the headline switches to days since while the boxes count up. Shared links keep counting too.

    Tips and limits

    • The countdown follows your device clock.
    • My local time events move with you when you travel.
    • A sleeping phone can’t play a sound; when you look again, the page shows that the moment has come.
    • Once loaded, the page keeps counting offline. More: how our timers stay accurate.
    • For minutes rather than days, use the online countdown timer; to ring at a time today, set an alarm clock.

    FAQ

How many days are left until Christmas?

Tap Christmas and the headline shows the number for your time zone. It counts calendar days, the midnights between now and 25 December, so today isn't included. On the day itself the page says “It's Christmas!” until midnight, then moves on to next year.

    Does “days until” count today?

No. The count is the number of midnights between now and the day, so today isn't counted and the count ends on the event day, the way most people count down. To include today, or the event day as well, add one.

Why don't the days and the live clock match exactly?

They measure different things. The headline counts calendar days, while the clock shows the exact time left, so at noon the clock reads half a day less. Across a daylight saving change it can also differ by an hour, because that day has 23 or 25 hours.

How do I make a countdown to a date and share it?

Type an Event name, pick the Date and, if you like, a Time, then press Share and Copy link. Anyone who opens the link sees the same countdown, with no account. The event travels inside the link, after the # sign, so nothing is stored on a server.

Can I count down to a time in another time zone?

Yes. Under Time zone, choose Fixed zone and pick the zone where the event happens. Everyone then counts to the same moment, and a second line shows when that is in your own time. To see the current time somewhere else, open the fullscreen digital clock.

Does it skip weekends or count business days?

No. The count includes every calendar day, weekends and holidays too. Working days depend on your country, your employer and your days off, so one rule would often be wrong. For a rough figure, switch Show to Weeks and days and subtract your days off.

Can I count down to Ramadan, Diwali or Lunar New Year?

Yes: type the date announced where you live. These holidays follow lunar or lunisolar calendars, so their dates move every year and can differ by country or community. The page doesn't guess them; its presets only cover holidays with a fixed, published rule.

Can I put the countdown on my website or stream?

Yes. Press Embed, pick a size and the Night, Day or Transparent theme, then Copy code and paste it into your page. For a stream, choose Share → Copy OBS link and add it as a browser source: the countdown appears on a transparent background.
